Police identify BMW driver in KFC crash

LANDOVER, Md. – Investigators Tuesday are notifying the family of a woman killed when she was tossed from a car that crashed into a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Landover, Md.

Hellena Louise Smith, 29, drove her four-door BMW through the large glass windows of the restaurant on Sheriff Road and Martin Luther King Highway around 6:30 p.m. Monday, Prince George’s County Police say. Witnesses say the car appeared to be traveling close to 100 miles per hour.

Four others were hurt, but those injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Repairs to the damaged windows were underway Tuesday morning.
