2-year-old rescued from District Heights fire dies

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. – A 2-year-old girl rescued by firefighters from her burning District Heights home died Sunday at Children’s Hospital.

When firefighters rescued Mariah Kendra Hood Friday from a second-floor bedroom of a home in the 6100 block of Hil-Mar Drive, she was not breathing and had no pulse.

Paramedics performed cardio pulmonary resuscitation and took her to the hospital in critical condition.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Unattended cooking caused the accidental fire at 1:45 a.m. Feb. 17. The fire did $50,000 damage.

Three adults and one child escaped the home after the fire alarm sounded. A 9-year-old was taken to the hospital for evaluation and a firefighter sustained minor burns.
