WASHINGTON – Virginia is growing faster in population than the nation overall, according to a new report. The biggest growth is in Northern Virginia.
The study from the Weldon Cooper Center at the University of Virginia shows the commonwealth grew by 1.2 percent since the 2010 census compared to 1 percent nationally.
Researchers believe good economic indicators, especially in Northern Virginia, should get the credit.
At the top is the City of Fredericksburg with about 1,200 new residents, or a 5 percent growth in two years.
Next is Loudoun County, which grew 4 percent, followed by Prince William and Arlington counties.
Virginia’s growth rate ranked 13th nationwide, with the District at the top.
