Beer of the Week: Stillwater Artisanal Ales

Brennan Haselton, wtop.com

WASHINGTON – There are microbrewers and macro brewers, but have you and your taste buds ever run into a “gypsy brewer?”

If not, you might soon after watching Greg Engert, beer director for the Neighborhood Restaurant Group — and a Food and Wine Sommelier of the Year — introduce WTOP’s Brennan Haselton to Stateside Saison from Stillwater Artisanal Ales.

Named a “Top New Brewer In The World 2011” by RateBeer, the unconventional maker of Stateside Saison brings together a northern French farmhouse ale yeast with American and New Zealand hops to create a unique, highly drinkable beer.

Stateside Saison is the second of four local beers to be featured this month on WTOP’s Beer of the Week.
