Talk to me Goose: A great wingman is only a payment away

WASHINGTON — Christian had Cyrano, Romeo had Mercutio, Peter Brady’s mustachioed “Phil Packer” had his older brother Greg. The stories of lovelorn tongue-tied men are many.

The time-tested “wingman” role — a co-pilot who’s comfortable in social situations and facilitates introductions — is often performed gratis, by an understanding friend.

But there can be money to be made.

A company called “The Professional Wingman” operates in several cities, including Washington, D.C. For a fee, the wingman socializes with the customer to help scout prospective mates and smooth awkward moments.

The traits of a good wingman include making sure the pointman is presentable and knowledgeable in an initial meeting, reports AskMen.com.

A good wingman knows the point man well enough to brag about some of his accomplishments, and wave-him-off a woman who isn’t compatible.
