DDOT completes most Pennsylvania Ave. roadwork

Tim Bracken, wtop.com

The D.C. Department of Transportation has completed most of the major roadwork on the Pennsylvania Avenue Great Streets Project, which began in 2009. Pennsylvania Avenue SE between 27th Street and Alabama Avenue, SE now has a median, new curbs, gutters, pavement and landscaping.

The final portion of Pennsylvania Avenue between Alabama Avenue and Southern Avenue, SE is a bit behind schedule, and should wrap up this spring. Paving and landscaping will continue, with one lane scheduled to be open in each direction, and crews will work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Once the work is completed, Pennsylvania Avenue will have two lanes running in each direction between Southern Avenue and 27th Street, SE.

DDOT recommends using Suitland Road and Massachusetts Avenue SE as alternates.
