WASHINGTON – A woman driving with her infant in the car was attacked by a man with a gun in Chinatown Thursday night.

D.C. Police say the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of F Street NW near Verizon Center.

A woman with her 15-month old son in the back seat of her vehicle was pulling out of a parking garage and waiting on traffic when a man jumped into the passenger side.

“He then ordered her to drive elsewhere, at some point they stopped, and he sexually assaulted her,” says D.C. Police Commander George Kucik.

The child was not hurt.

It’s not clear yet exactly where the assault took place, but the woman eventually ended up in the 400 block of Farragut Street NW.

“We’re canvassing the area to see if there are other witnesses, see if there’s any video, all those other types of things we’re trying to follow up on to determine more about what happened,” Kucik says.

Police are looking for a black male with a medium complexion, a mustache, and a southern accent. He was also wearing dark clothing.

Police say the crime has no direct connection to Verizon Center.
