WASHINGTON — Police originally thought a man found dead Tuesday morning in Montgomery County had been hit by a car, but now they believe he was murdered.

Franklin Ikechukwu Amobi, 24, was shot near a bus stop before 7 a.m. Tuesday on the 11400 block of Stewart Lane near April Lane in White Oak. The neighborhood of town homes and apartments is close to Route 29.

Police received reports of two gunshots fired at roughly 6:38 p.m. Neighbors reported a pedestrian struck about 10 minutes later. It is unclear if the victim was alone when the shooting took place.

No one else was hurt.

Montgomery County Police say homicide detectives are investigating.
