Help us find our dog — family devastated after car stolen with dog inside

WASHINGTON — More than 100 ‘lost dog’ posters line the streets in parts of Prince George’s County on Friday — put up by a family whose beloved dog was inside their SUV when it was stolen from an office parking lot three days before Christmas.

Joan Reilly, of Potomac, Maryland, says her husband Ed brought their 3-year-old schnauzer Cody with him on Thursday when he ran to his Landover office for a brief stop. Cody was in the front passenger seat — where he likes to ride — of the older model, black chevrolet Yukon when Mr. Reilly went inside.

When he came out, both the dog and the car were gone.

“This is our little baby, and my kids are all hysterical because they are as close to Cody as we are,” Reilly says.

Later, a postal worker spotted the car and called the police because it looked suspicious, Joan Reilly says. The mailman found the car running with its back door open on a street in Prince George’s County. It appeared the lock had been forced out.

Cody, who Reilly says is black and gray with four white feet and a white face, was not wearing tags at the time “because he’s not an outside dog.” However, he does have a microchip.

The Reilly’s have reached out to animal shelters and the police, as well as put up posters. Plus, they’re offering a $1,000 reward for the dog. They’re hoping someone will spot Cody and help him get home for the holidays.

If anyone has information about Cody’s whereabouts, Joan Reilly asks they call her at (301) 424-4492, or contact the Prince George’s County Police Department.
