WASHINGTON – A pedestrian was struck and killed by two vehicles Saturday night in Wheaton, and police are looking for the driver of one of the vehicles.
Police say an unidentified man was trying to cross Veirs Mill Road from the Randolph Crossing Shopping Center when was struck in the westbound lanes by a Chevrolet Monte Carlo around 10:30 p.m. He was then struck by a dark-colored SUV. The driver of the Monte Carlo stopped at the scene, but the driver of the SUV did not.
The man died of his injuries at the Washington Hospital Center around 12:45 Sunday morning. They have not been able to confirm his identity. He is described as a Hispanic male, between 35 and 50 years old, 5’4″ tall, and weighing 170 pounds. He has black hair and a moustache. At the time of the collision he was wearing a black jacket, a blue checkered button-down shirt, blue jeans, and black slip on shoes.
The driver of the Monte Carlo has been identified as 47-year-old Patrick Manning Hughley, of Silver Spring. He was not injured.
Police are still investigating the incident, and are trying to identify the pedestrian and the driver of the SUV.
An earlier, unrelated crash killed a man in Rockville.
Police say Pablo Alejandro Fontana, 31 years of age, of the 800 block of Bowie Road in Rockville was driving a 2004 Dodge Viper with Virginia tags on East Gude Drive near Norbeck Road around 8 p.m. when the car left the roadway, struck a light pole and overturned, and struck a tree.
He was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries around 1 a.m. Sunday.
Police aren’t sure if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time, and do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Anyone with information about either of these incidents are asked to call the collision reconstruction unit at 301-840-2435.
