Va. state trooper, suspect shot along I-95

WASHINGTON — All southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Thornburg, Va. were shut down Thursday following a shooting involving a state trooper.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Trooper M.H. Hamer stopped at mile marker 116 after a report of a pedestrian on the Interstate. Once the pedestrian was inside the trooper’s car, a struggle ensued and shots were fired and both men were injured.

Hamer was taken by ambulance to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the incident continues.
