Pedestrian seriously injured after being hit by a bus in Rockville

WASHINGTON — A Rockville woman has been seriously injured in an accident involving a Montgomery County Ride-On Bus.

Montgomery County police say the accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday night at the intersection of Halpine Road and Rockville Pike.

The bus driver, 58-year-old Fredy Oscar Velasquez from Rockville, was turning from Halpine Road onto northbound Rockville Pike when he hit a woman crossing the street.

She’s been identified as 63-year-old Jila Hamidieh, also from Rockville.

An ambulance took Hamidieh to Suburban Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery County police are still investigating the circumstances around the crash and whether Hamidieh was legally crossing.
