SILVER SPRING, Md. – A 17-year-old was charged with attempted homicide on Wednesday after police say she stabbed another teenager when attempting to break up a fight.
Briana Sarai Funes is being charged as an adult after police say she stabbed 17-year-old Montgomery Blair High School student in the parking lot of Northwood High School, where both girls had attended a basketball game.
Funes told police she saw the victim involved in a physical altercation with one of Funes’ friends shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday and used a knife she had in her jacket pocket to intercede. Police say Funes stabbed the victim several times in the back before fleeing in her car.
The victim, who is a Montgomery Blair High School student, was stabbed several times in her lower torso. She was transported to Suburban Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
