Overturned log truck snarls traffic on I-95 in Fredericksburg

WASHINGTON – An afternoon crash involving a log truck is impacting caused miles of backup on southbound Interstate 95 in Fredericksburg during Monday evening rush hour.

Virginia State Police say around 3 p.m. the driver of a tractor-trailer was negotiating the curve of the exit ramp from westbound Route 3 to southbound I-95 when the load of logs shifted.

The truck overturned on its side, spilling logs and debris across southbound I-95.

The driver of the truck, John Wayne Smith, 67, of Fredericksburg, was not injured in the crash. He has been charged with reckless driving.

Virginia State Police say speed was a factor in the crash.
