Geography not Obama campaign’s strength

WASHINGTON — The 2012 presidential election is shaping up to be a spectacular contest. Almost weekly, the Republican camp anoints a new frontrunner. On the Democratic side, President Obama is facing low approval ratings due to a weak economy and impotent Congress.

His campaign could also be hurt by less-than-accurate marketing.

Enter the state lapel pins. All 50 states and D.C. are represented, but a few are missing just one thing: part of their geography.

D.C., for instance, is down most of Ward 8, a troublesome fact for the president, considering he received 85 percent of its primary vote and 99 percent of its general vote in 2008, according to DCist.

Also missing is the eastern bit of Maryland and the upper peninsula of Michigan. Colorado and Wyoming are suspiciously square. At least Virginia looks appropriately mountainous.
