Park Service proposes Bikeshare spots on National Mall

WASHINGTON – It looks like cyclists who use the Capital Bikeshare program will have something extra to be thankful for in the coming year.

Initially cool to the idea, the National Park Service now says it is seriously considering placing five Bikeshare stations on the National Mall — one near the Smithsonian Metro station, the others near major memorials like the Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington Monument.

The stations would serve as another way to help tourists get around the Mall following the demise of the Tourmobile. Capital Bikeshare already is trying to get more visitors to use its service by partnering with hotels.

The park service is soliciting comments on the proposed Bikeshare expansion here.

Comments can be submitted through Dec. 28, and may also be faxed to the attention of Eliza Voigt, Capital Bikeshare, at (202) 426-1835.
