Maryland’s unemployment rate fell to 7.2 percent in October, down 0.2 percentage points from September.
The figures were released Tuesday by the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
Unemployment figures for Frederick County and city will be available Nov. 29.
In comparison, West Virginia’s unemployment rate for October was 8.2 percent; Pennsylvania, 8.1 percent and Virginia, 6.4 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that Maryland added 3,100 jobs in October, including 1,900 in the private sector. Since October 2010, Maryland has added 9,700 jobs, the fourth straight month of over-the-year growth.
“This month’s report supports the evidence that Maryland is an economic leader and among the best states to do business. Still, we must protect our investments in skills training and maintain our status as one of the best positioned states to recover quickly and sustainably,” stated Maryland Labor Secretary Alexander M. Sanchez in a news release.

The latest DLLR figures show 203,939 Marylanders without work in October and 2.8 million employed.
