WASHINGTON – They are songs and albums that have proved popular for generations, and now they’re headed to the Grammy Hall of Fame.
The Recording Academy has unveiled is list of 25 recordings, including spoken word pieces such as Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s “I Have a Dream” speech, that will be inducted in 2012.
“The Recording Academy is dedicated to celebrating a wide variety of great music and sound through the decades,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy in a statement. “We are especially honored to welcome this year’s selection of some of the most influential recordings of the last century.”
Recordings from the 1980’s are particularly well-represented in the 2012 class, including Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The U.S.A.” album,
Paul Simon’s album, “Graceland.”
And Tina Turner’s single, “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”
