An app for estimating Thanksgiving appetites

Evan Haning, wtop.com

WASHINGTON – Who needs experience when an algorithm will do the job?

A free app from Lovefoodhatewaste.com helps you plan Thanksgiving dinner and make the most of the leftovers.

Start with the Portion Planner. Click the number of plates for adults and kids (the algorithm knows children eat less) to figure out how much you should cook.

After the meal, put your leftovers in the “virtual blender.” (No, it does not make turkey smoothies.) It suggests recipes using your leftover ingredients.

The app is free from iTunes and Android.

While you’re at it, check out the free Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade app.

It provides “real-time parade tracking” so you can follow your hometown marching band (Go Ballou High!), and more.

Plus, if you’re in New York City to see the parade live, this app will help you find public restrooms!
