Expect several ‘ferocious’ nor’easters this winter

WASHINGTON – What kind of weather will the region see this winter?

ABC 7 Meteorologist Bob Ryan says it could be another “year of extremes.”

“I think we’re looking at a winter with some active storms. I think we’re looking at, with the pattern that we see… several cases of pretty ferocious nor’easters,” Ryan tells WTOP.

Ryan says those storms could come in January and February.

Get used to the wild ride.

“Some years you do get a lot of weather extremes,” says Paul Kocin of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction.

In 2011 alone, those patterns caused $50 billion in weather-related disasters.
